• FAILED for decades to protect rural high-fire areas with the most basic safety upgrades, especially insulated wire (AKA Tree Wire or “hardened”) to replace the thin, bare wire that causes the problem. There is a major effort underway by Southern California Edison ($500 million being spent to install insulated wires by end of 2020). Why not PG&E?
• FAILED to upgrade infrastructure in rural high-fire areas with high impedance arc-fault interrupters that cut power to broken lines within seconds. San Diego Gas & Electric is doing so. Why not PG&E?
• FAILED to underground wires in most severe fire areas where feasible. This is in spite of over $1 billion in credit reserves for undergrounding unused.

Each of these three make tree removal
and vegetation clearance unnecessary!

• DENIED CEQA/EIR necessary. CPUC declared that this massive program, to denude thousands of miles of power lines, is not a “project” (patently ridiculous), and failed required notification of agencies and entities involved (cities, counties, water districts, NOAA, CA F&W, Cal Fire, Cal Trans, etc.) of its self-declared Exemption from CEQA requirements.
• FAILED to provide Environmental Assessment of Wildfire Safety Program as requested by our Board of Supervisors. Sierra Club stated PG&E and done internal environmental reviews but has refused to make them public. Read more. 
• FAILED to provide timeline as requested by Board of Supervisors saying they didn’t have one. (patently ridiculous)
• FAILED to provide data that vegetation removal plan would work to prevent fire. During CPUC planning process, CPUC’s own Office of Public Safety Advocate stated that PG&E had no data to prove the massive removals would be effective: “It does not appear that PG&E evaluated the individual effectiveness of its mitigation programs to reduce wires down, including wires down that remain energized...” ([Investigation 17-11-003] Filed November 9, 2017). This was ignored.

We are in the “Tier 3” area, defined as Utility Associated highest fire danger. It’s PG&E’s thin, bare wires that cause fires.

Add your voice to demand infrastructure improvements before continuing environmentally destructive denuding thousands of miles. This is costing ratepayers millions of dollars when “hardening” the lines (insulating) should have been done first, as is being done by Southern California Edison.

We’re paying twice financially and face severe environmental degradation and damage.
