
The Valley Women’s Club’s is pleased to present six grants to local organizations through their pilot Community Grants program. The goal of the Grant program is to support and strengthen local organizations working to create community programs and projects that affect the health and welfare of the San Lorenzo Valley and its community. Funds awarded will be used for specific capital improvements and projects. Following is the list of this year’s recipients:
Mountain Community Resources will remove an interior wall to create a larger and more inviting multi-purpose room. This space will allow MCR to offer a meeting space for community partners and local organizations. MCR provides services to families and individuals in the San Lorenzo Valley and Scotts Valley, including counseling, parenting classes, youth advocacy, translation services, and a food pantry. MCR is a program of Community Bridges. Grant award is for $3,000.
Ben Lomond Fire Protection District will purchase tables and chairs for community meetings, Board meetings and fund raising events. Ben Lomand fire department, like all three in the SLV, is primarily staffed by volunteers. Grant award is for $3000.
South Street Centre Boulder Creek will purchase a room heater, vacuum and art supplies. South Street is a family based community organization located in Boulder Creek. For the last two decades it has provided a space where families can meet, play together, eat together and relax. Grant award is for $695.
Lompico Community Center will use its award to purchase building materials for a new roof and gutter system for the sole bus depot and bathroom/storage building near Loch Lomond. During emergencies it provides public phone access in this remote area. Local contractors and residents will provide the labor. Grant award is for $1,667.
Mountain Parks Foundation’s mission is to support and promote educational programs that foster awareness, understanding and stewardship of our two local redwood state parks, Henry Cowell and Big Basin. The award will go towards helping to upgrade television equipment for the Foundation’s Nature Center. Grant award is for $943.
The San Lorenzo Valley Historical Society is housed in the historic Grace Episcopal Church in Boulder Creek where it works to preserve and share local history with residents, visitors, and students. The award will be used for supplies for window frame repairs. Grant award is for $695.
