Find out November 1st.
The Monterey Bay Unified Air Pollution Control District is starting a voluntary Spare the Air program this winter to reduce wood smoke emissions. Disturbing levels of particulate air pollution, caused by old or improperly used wood stoves, are causing real threats to the health of local residents in certain areas of the SLV. Through education and support for alternative heat sources, the MBUAPD has been trying to reduce that pollution. Not everyone can afford those alternative heat sources, so careful burning is vital, and too many stoves are producing unacceptable levels of particulates. So a new effort has been planned.
Representatives from the Air District will provide up-to-date information at the at the VWC Environmental Committee meeting on November 1, 10:30, at the Nature Store meeting room at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. You are welcome to attend!
