The Environmental Committee works to protect the watershed and to educate the public on forestry issues, erosion control, hazardous waste, recycling, and other issues. We also monitor government policies and procedures.
PG&E is a high priority for the Environmental Committee due to its massive and destructive felling of trees to prevent wildfires when unsafe, unreliable, antiquated equipment is the fundamental cause of the fires. From working on legislation and a new Franchise Agreement for PG&E in the County to in-depth research and analysis to support work with agencies affecting PG&E and helping folks protect their trees from PG&E’s contractors, this keeps the group busy. We work with a State-wide Utility Wildfire Prevention Taskforce on these issues.

The Valley Women’s Club (VWC) has recently received word that County Parks is proceeding with their plans for the pump track project. While the VWC still maintains its stance against the chosen location for the track, we want to emphasize that our opposition pertains solely to the site, not the concept of having a pump track within the Valley.
In the near future, County Parks will seek approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) from the Supervisors. This will enable them to collaborate with the Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship to raise funds for the construction of the pump track. Once this issue is placed on the Supervisor’s agenda, we will encourage concerned individuals to participate in public comment sessions. We anticipate this agenda item will be coming up soon and will promptly notify you via email when we receive further information.
