The Dixie Fire was the largest (non-complex) fire in California and the second largest in US history. Suppression alone cost over 650 million dollars. A person convicted of the felony of causing a fire must go to prison and pay a fine. Here is the CAL FIRE report detailing PG&E’s complete failure to remove the tree and respond to the outage causing the resulting disaster. Starting with the severely degraded system and culminating with the failure to take down a long dead tree that had been identified by previous PG&E inspections to be removed – but never was. PG&E was found negligent in failing to act to cut off power to the line and failing to remove the tree and held responsible for the disastrous fire and the smoke that threatened the health of tens of thousands of people. No one went to jail.
