At a very exciting Awards Night, May 24th at SLV High School, five students received significant awards from the Valley Women’s Club’s Scholarship Committee, ranging from $400 to $800. The purpose of the Scholarship is to provide direct financial support for high school graduates from SLV Unified School District who have considered the future and recognize the benefit of continuing their education. The money is disbursed once the students enroll and begin school, $400 for one or two semesters. The students may spend the money in any way they wish.
The 2012 VWC Scholarship Recipients are London Bullard ($800) who is planning to go into Nursing, Ruby Carrillo-Soto ($400) whose goal is Criminal Justice, Taralyn McKay ($400) who is as yet undeclared, Michael Morgan ($800), also undeclared, and Brenda Veloz-Dias ($800) who plans to become a Dental Hygienist. The Recipients each filled out an application, provided recommendations, and demonstrated a desire to continue their education.
The dedicated Scholarship Committee has been under the leadership of Chair Hilary Stanley since its inception; the committee members also currently includes Sandra Love, Donna Ziel and Sheila DeLany.
