Imagine being a high school student planning to attend Cabrillo College and confronting all the costs involved, from transportation to fees and books. Then imagine receiving $500 or $1000 to support your education goals. Even better, imagine being able to use the funds in any way you want.  The VWC offers that to several students each year.

Thanks to the long-running VWC Scholarship Committee’s efforts (a part of the Education Committee), any San Lorenzo Valley senior, in any of the local programs from SLV High or The Watershed Academy to homeschoolers, may apply for a VWC Scholarship if she or he is planning to attend Cabrillo College.

Founding VWC member, Hilary Stanley, chairs the Scholarship Committee and has organized the Yard Sale each year for 16 years now, as a way to provide funds for the Scholarship. Hundreds of VWC members and supporters have donated items for the Yard Sale and many thousands of dollars have been raised through it over the years.

In addition, some very special VWC members have provided significant donations to the Fund over the years – expanding its reach significantly. We would like to acknowledge and thank Jackie Baker, Sandra Love, Geraldine Zaballos, Isda Funari, and Julie Hendriks, for their generous contributions. So many SLV young people have benefited from their kindness, and each has gone out of the way to send thanks.

Please set aside gently used items now, and plan to bring them to Hilary starting in June, and ask your friends to gather their finest rummage, too! The annual Rummage Sale takes place on Saturday, June 15, in the parking lot at the corner of Highway 9 and Flat Street in Boulder Creek (thanks to the SLV Water District who owns the building). Hilary is looking for all kinds of household items, kitchen gear, linens, gently-loved toys, home décor, tools, household goods, and (small) furniture items. The sale will run from about 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, so plan to shop early for the best selection! Thanks for your support!
