The Environmental Committee works to protect the watershed and to educate the public on forestry issues, erosion control, hazardous waste, recycling, and other issues. We also monitor government policies and procedures.
PG&E is a high priority for the Environmental Committee due to its massive and destructive felling of trees to prevent wildfires when unsafe, unreliable, antiquated equipment is the fundamental cause of the fires. From working on legislation and a new Franchise Agreement for PG&E in the County to in-depth research and analysis to support work with agencies affecting PG&E and helping folks protect their trees from PG&E’s contractors, this keeps the group busy. We work with a State-wide Utility Wildfire Prevention Taskforce on these issues.

We hope that you are well and safe in these exceptional hard times. Together the Santa Cruz Mountain residents have navigated through the hectic, unexpected evacuation; faced the grief of losing either our own homes; or friends, family, neighbors losing theirs. As members of this community, we have supported each other by organizing quick, helpful responses to various immediate needs. Gratefully we received the outpour of human kindness from far and wide, which was beyond outstanding and genuinely heartwarming. These supportive actions sustained us through our life-altering experience.
Now we are entering the phase of re-grouping, taking inventory of what needs to be done to move forward to stabilizing our lives again. A new process for all of us, we’ll be encountering unfamiliar tasks and questions that will require useful, pertinent assistance, and answers. We want to ease your search for what you need to figure out; therefore, we started a “Help” list.
Sincerely,
Jane Mio
