What a wonderful weekend! What could be better than coming into the wide meadow and beautiful trees of the Roaring Camp venue on a sunny weekend, add the uplifting and exciting performances by 21 bands, walking through and making purchases from talented artisans, and enjoying all the extras including the great children’s activities? Make it all affordable due to the efforts of over 400 volunteers, and you have the Redwood Mountain Faire was a huge success. www.redwoodmountainfaire.com
Over 4,500 people came over the weekend to share in its delights, and after bills were paid and funds set aside to assure next year’s Faire, the 14 non-profit, school and community organizations that provided the individual volunteers received a total of $40,000, averaging $21.24 per volunteer hour. Up from just under $17 in 2012.
The Faire Steering Committee works year-round to create this wonderful event. Everyone on the Committee is a volunteer and dedicated to the idea of providing a positive, healthy, creative community event. Kudos for their love and dedication go to Faire Director, Violet Anna Lieby Smith, and the rest of the Committee Members, Julie Hendriks, Pam Spehar, Steven Shabry, Alicia Kennedy, Tai Stills, Linda Moore, Nancy Macy, Jim Coffis, Hallie Green, Dan Henning and Eric Hammer.
Of course each of them will pass on the credit to the dozens of others who played major roles in so many ways.
The joy is in the event and its heart-warming impact on those attending, and in knowing that some wonderful organizations can benefit from the proceeds.
