Several VWC members helped with handing out special school bags at San Lorenzo Valley Elementary and Boulder Creek Elementary during their Pre-K and Kindergarten sign ups! Education Chair, Roz Alley got it organized, and was assisted by Ed Committee members Vince Waskell, Sheila DeLany and Pam Spehar. All in all we gave out about 150 ready-for-school bags to the incoming kindergarten and pre-kindergarten students.
Each year we fill little canvas bags with a book, pencils, glue, colored paper, scissors, crayons, and other items that local teachers have suggested will help with kindergarten readiness. The new students (and the parents and teachers) are thrilled to get the bags. Parents get involved by reading the book to the children, realizing the importance of a library card (an application is included), and helping their child learn to use the little scissors, to draw, and to look at the book.
The K-Bag program is sponsored mostly by a very generous anonymous donation, and was the inspiration of former VWC Board member Dusty Gipson! Thank you VWC Members for making it such a successful annual event!
