The Boulder Creek 4th of July parade was an absolutely stupendous event! It was a fantastic occasion where our community came together to celebrate our country’s independence and the remarkable strength we find in our unity. Considering all the challenges the San Lorenzo Valley has faced in recent years, this celebration held even greater meaning as we connected with one another through joyous festivities.
One of the reasons the parade is so special is the overwhelming attendance by families in our community. Many have cherished memories of attending the firehouse pancake breakfast and lining the streets to witness the merriment. It’s heartwarming to see familiar faces, local businesses, and organizations proudly marching, sharing their vibrant community spirit. The memories created during the parade will be cherished forever, especially by our children.
Did you catch the enchanting sight of tiny-winged butterflies, playful flowers, and adorable woodland creatures distributing candies to their human counterparts? The Valley Women’s Club (VWC) was thrilled to have young families join in demonstrating their appreciation for nurturing our forests and habitats. Young mothers founded the VWC with the same intent, so it’s inspiring to witness their environmental legacy being carried forward.
This year’s new addition was the Town Block Party which followed the parade for local businesses and organizations to share their wares. The VWC rooted itself at the end of Forest Street, where board members and volunteers represented the Club. Education Committee Chair Sandi Clinton and her daughter set up a table encouraging our younger residents to register to vote. At the same time, VWC President Alisan Andrews shared informative literature with those interested and signed up new members.
The SLV Native Habitat Restoration Program (NHRP) showcased a patriotically decorated El Camino loaded with native plants available for donation. Many people gathered together, sharing their knowledge of native plants and their gardening experiences. The overwhelming interest and positive response have prompted Linda Skeff, NHRP Committee Chair, to organize an exciting event to bring together native plant enthusiasts and those eager to learn more. And, of course, there will be native plants to bring home for your own nature sanctuary! Stay tuned!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the VWC members, volunteers, and their families who joined us, proudly donning their wings! We are also grateful to the Boulder Creek Business Association for bringing us together and making this incredible event possible.
