EDUCATION/SCHOLARSHIP
This parking lot was filled with toys, household goods, tools, small furniture, electronic goods and much more a few weeks ago for the Annual VWC Scholarship Yard Sale.
It looks easy, and it obviously depends upon the generosity of so many who bring their (mostly really nice) no-longer-wanted items, but the annual VWC YARD SALE to benefit the Scholarship Committee does take a lot of work and a lot of coordination. This year $1214 was raised and will help fund the annual scholarships to SLV seniors planning to attend Cabrillo.
Hilary Stanley, who coordinates the event, wanted you all to know that it is the SLV Water District that allows us to use the excellent location on Hwy 9 at Flat Street to hold the sale, and to store items for up to about a month before the sale. This is an enormous advantage and we are very grateful to the SLVWD for allowing this use.
Hilary also wanted to point out that many VWC members were there early in the morning to sort and set up, while others ran the sale and stayed until it was over and the site cleaned up. This was, again, on the hottest Saturday in June, which seems to be the pattern for the event. Many thanks go to Cathy Phillips, Jim Coffis, Amanda Robinson, Laura Whaley, Nancy Macy, Sheila and Jerry DeLany, Roberta McPherson, Mary Hammer, Steve Edmonds, Roz Alley, Janie Tibbals, Thomas Wynn, and Donna Ziel for their dedication and hard work, making the sale a big success again.
