Be Sure to VOTE in Board Election!
You may have been surprised to see in the year-end mailing (regarding renewing your membership and voting for the new VWC Board), that two current Board members have decided not to run for re-election, much to the regret of their fellow Board members!
Dixie Mitchell-Clow
Dixie Mitchell-Clow has provided such significant leadership to the VWC in the past few years, that it is truly difficult to imagine how the VWC will fill all the needs she has handled. Dixie dedicated hundreds of hours in a wide range of important roles including Co-President, Newsletter Co-Editor, Budget Officer, serving on the Recycling Centers’ Advisory Committee, the Recycling Ad Hoc Committee (to hire a new Recycling Managing Director), and on the Women’s Issues and Publicity Committees, and she volunteered at the Faire. Everyone working with Dixie knew that whatever task she took on was handled promptly, thoughtfully and thoroughly.
Dixie has been counted on for her ability to see all sides of an issue, her gracious and articulate presentations, her ability to understand financial detail, and to clearly express important ideas during difficult discussions. Her work on the Recycling Ad Hoc Committee, for example, whose goal was to find a skilled person to run the recycling centers and to help make the transition, helped us understand and articulate what skills and strengths were needed in a new Managing Director. Sincere thanks to Dixie for such caring service.
Laura Whaley will also be sorely missed from the Board. Laura brought something special and unique to every project she worked on, and was valued for her thoughtful ideas and positions at the monthly Board meetings. Laura helped organize our General Meetings over the past two years; she reported on our local libraries and she brought in a fun way for the members to provide input and ideas for the coming year.
Laura was on the Education Committee, and her occupation as a librarian enabled her to bring wonderful new children’s hardbound books for the Education Committee’s “Ready for School Bags” that are distributed to each and every child entering kindergarten. Laura worked very hard on the Faire, helping with planning and taking on an important coordinating role over the two-days of the event that was enormously valuable. We are grateful to Laura for offering so much to the VWC!
