The County Commission on the Environment (COE) voted unanimously to send a letter to the Board of Supervisors containing information from the VWC Environmental Committee’s presentation on July 26th about the potential new PG&E Franchise Agreement, along with supporting documents.
At the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors meeting on August 22, the COE’s letter and numerous others found their place in the tail end of the Correspondence section within the Board’s Agenda Packet. Members of VWC’s PG&E Subcommittee made a deliberate effort to attend the meeting to bring the Board’s attention to the letter – urging the Board to read the letter and the supporting documents and supporting the idea of a new Franchise Agreement (FA). They were not alone, as other community members, both in-person and through Zoom, voiced their opinions. In addition, supporters of the idea had sent in additional letters urging them to prioritize reading the COE letter and the associated documents. This collective effort captured the Board’s interest – the first step in awareness.
The PG&E Subcommittee plans to personally present their case to Board members who have yet to receive one.
