VWC Members Mary Hammer. Vince Waskell and Donna Ziel are on The Advisory Committee for the Scotts Valley/SLV Cabrillo College Center. Donna was elected to the Board of Trustees because of her years of dedication to the College. The VWC has been very active in support of Cabrillo College literally for decades, first in working to bring a branch to our area, supporting the approval of bonds to support the College, then helping find a site for a local branch and determining the types of classes to be offered, and then most recently fighting to keep the site open in spite of financial strains at the College.
The Advisory Committee met earlier this semester, and Cabrillo is keeping the Center going on a shoestring with classes offered only in the evening so as to make daytime space available to potential renters. So far, there is only one organization utilizing space during the day, as a result, Rachel Mayo, Dean of Off-campus Centers, is planning to move a course or two to daytime in the spring semester. The passing of Prop 30 makes it more likely that the Center’s curriculum will remain limited as is until funding can be restored.
