Over $1600 in Sales!
Thanks to the dedication of Scholarship Committee chair, Hilary Stanley, who has spearheaded the annual Yard Sale since its inception, the Scholarship program received a record amount from this year’s event. A dozen VWC volunteers helped set up the sale, staffed the event, and helped clean up afterwards. There was record heat that day, which made it more challenging, but dozens of people came and found useful and attractive items to purchase, from the hundreds of items that had been donated for the sale. Especially popular was the amazing collection of jewelry, as well as the tools, toys and household goods that filled the parking lot.
The VWC owes a debt of gratitude to the SLV Water District for their kind permission in allowing us to use an empty office to store the donated items as they were brought by in the weeks before the sale, and to hold the sale in the parking lot of their office building at the corner of Hwy 9 and Flat Street. And many thanks to the VWC volunteers who worked so hard in the sun and the dozens of VWC members who provided the items for the sale.
Another person deserving of recognition is Jackie Baker who again made a $150 cash donation to the Scholarship fund at the time of the Sale! The 2012 Scholarship recipients have just started school at Cabrillo College and, once they have turned in their proof of registration, will receive their scholarship monies.
