The Environmental Committee works to protect the watershed and to educate the public on forestry issues, erosion control, hazardous waste, recycling, and other issues. We also monitor government policies and procedures.
PG&E is a high priority for the Environmental Committee due to its massive and destructive felling of trees to prevent wildfires when unsafe, unreliable, antiquated equipment is the fundamental cause of the fires. From working on legislation and a new Franchise Agreement for PG&E in the County to in-depth research and analysis to support work with agencies affecting PG&E and helping folks protect their trees from PG&E’s contractors, this keeps the group busy. We work with a State-wide Utility Wildfire Prevention Taskforce on these issues.

The VWC invites you to join in on the 36th SLV Annual River & Road Clean Up and help in the effort to nurture our mountain habitat!
Since 1986, volunteers for the SLV Annual River & Road Clean Up days have removed tons of trash and recycling from our rivers and roads throughout the San Lorenzo Valley. You’d think our environment would be pristine after these many annual clean-ups! But every year trash accumulates back into our forests and streams, threatening wildlife, ecosystems, and the watershed. We are fortunate to partner with Save Our Shores, which monitors the clean-up efforts to influence policy and increase awareness of how humans impact our environment.
Students can earn Community Service hours! Wear good walking shoes and bring water and sunscreen. Site captains will provide suggested areas for clean-up and safety guidelines.
Sign in to get your bags and a snack from one of three sites, and bring back the trash collected (note: there is no piece of trash too big or too small) for proper recycling or disposal:
UPDATE: ALL CAPTAIN POSITIONS HAVE BEEN FILLED!
In addition to needing volunteers to pick up trash and recycling, Site Captains are also needed at each location.
A Site Captain will be asked to:
